Ladies Gaelic Football Update

1) Belgium Ladies Tournament (September 10)

The following teams will partiipate in the upcoming Belgium ladies tournament on September 10:

Belgium A
Belgium B
Belgium C
Paris Gaels
Prague Hibernians
Copenhagen
Holland Ladies
Stockholm

2) Guernsey ladies tournament

We have done our best, but unfortunately the Guernsey tournament to be held this October won’t have an official ladies round. It’s a real pity, but the European Competition Regulations state that 4 registered ladies teams are needed in order to allocate points to the European Ladies Championship.

Although, there were ladies teams and players confirming their attendance and signalling intent to travel to Guernsey, it appears that the minimum number of teams required by the Regulations wouldn’t be reached. That’s why we have made this decision in order to avoid teams incurring costs in the belief that this would be an official round.

This doesn’t mean there’s not going to be any ladies football activity in the Guernsey tournament.  Therefore,,we’ll provide ladies teams and players still wanting to travel to Guernsey with facilities for games. Many thanks to all the ladies teams who have showed an interest in the Guernsey tournament.

3) Munich and Maastricht Tournament Reports

Please find 2 links below to the International Unit page of the LGFA website from the respective Munich and Maastricht rounds. http://ladiesgaelic.ie/overseas/maastricht-ladies-european-round-report/ and http://ladiesgaelic.ie/overseas/munich-ladies-european-round-report/ . The reports will be published in the Peil Mag autumn edition as well. The reports will also appear soon on the ECB website.

4) FUNdamentals Coaching Course

On the 27th August, a FUNdamentals coaching course was held in Brussels, organised in partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, the European County Board and Belgium GAA Club. 13 fully involved participants attended the course, coming from Belgium GAA, Munich ladies, Holland ladies and Barcelona Gaelettes.

The course tutor tailored the course according to the characteristics of the European ladies teams. The main focus was on how to mix theoretical & practical elements to adult Ladies teams instead of underage teams.

The FUNdamentals course comprised of several units, some of them practical, (Good Coaching Practice, ABC’s of Gaelic Football, Coaching a Session, etc.). The participants had a look at issues such as planning and implementing training programmes as well as practical coaching and an introduction into player pathway. Many thanks to all the participants!

We would like to set up a blog amongst the participants and the coaching tutor, in order to have a follow up implementation of the elements delivered in the course and exchange impressions, experiences, etc. Please, contact Monica Duran ladiesfootballofficer.europe@gaa.ie if you would be interested in joining any future blogs.
